Décolletage is the upper chest and
lower neck (décolletage), in women.
The décolletage is an area that is
often ignored in the
rejuvenation
process, but it can be treated
easily and should be a part of any
rejuvenation program.
Often, the most dramatic premature
aging is expressed in fair-skinned
individuals. A combination of
factors are usually involved: loss
of collagen and elasticity leading
to lines and wrinkles; development
of brown/age spots, broken blood
vessels, and rough spots leading to
uneven texture and pigmentation; and
changes in the underlying muscles
leading to bands in the neck.
Since so many changes are occurring,
multiple treatment modalities are
needed to completely rejuvenate this
area. Luckily, there are many
options that can be done with little
or no downtime.
A modality for the loss of collagen
and elasticity can be addressed with
laser and can be far more cost
effective. Newer treatments may have
play a positive role, but they are
currently expensive relative to
their results.
Prevention of further damage is
through any future sun protection.
Judicious use of sunscreen of SPF 30
or higher and topical preparations
containing Antioxidant properties
are helpful.
